Altered Book & Tag

I have and always will encourage my children to read read read!  Lucky for me they love reading as much as I do!

One of our favourite reads is Little Women by Louise M.Alcott.  The book we have is old with a work cover; and the first few pages were really tattered.  I decided to alter this book with the gorgeous Tradewinds papers.

I chose paper representative of women i.e. red roses with gold and glitter and added the lace on the spine for a more genteel effect. Isn't that paper gorgeous!!!  A glittery swirl and Tim Holtz metal corners and my cover was complete!

I just love this tag!! It depicts a very elegant lady on the one side and a vintage lamp shade on the other.  This lamp and shade is indicative of a lady's room where she would keep such a decorative lamp as she settles down to read a favourite book.

I did a mixed media technique using old newspaper images and mod podge to create the background I wanted.  I inked the tag with quite a few distress inks - vintage photo, brushed corduroy, victorian velvet, walnut stain and black soot.  I cute two petals off a black flower, glossy accent it and added stickles to lend it an aged look.  I glued the flower onto a small piece of black lace to create the accessory for her hair.  On the image she has flowers on her dress so I applied flower soft to accentuate them.  I glimmer misted a petite white silk flower to match the hues of the tag.  A strip of lace near the bottom and some bling for her necklace and earring finished off the one side of the tag.

The flip side of the tag is quite simple - stamped a vine, lace border and a lamp and shade with black soot distress ink.  Glimmer misted a tiny strip of lace and with glossy accents glued it to down to decorate the edge of the lamp shade.  Some black and brown fibers and my tag was finished and ready to use as a  book marl for future reads!

I loved making this project!!

I hope you enjoyed reading about the project too!  My family loves it and so do I!

Altered Mini Canvas

The DCWV Tradewinds papers are absolutely beautiful and a pleasure to work with.

I created this mini canvas showcasing the two of us as a gift for my husband for our anniversary.  I cute my photo in a heart shape and matted it onto read heart shaped cardstock before mounting it onto heart shaped chipboard; the chipboard.  The heart shapes on the canvas represent our love and I chose the paper with the key images to represent out blessed time together.

I complimented the key images by adding a key sticker on the top of the paper doily.  There are two different swirls under the flowers - these flowers compliment the browns and cremes in the layout perfectly and I carried this forward by choosing a Time Holtz alphabet for my sentiment and also the date of our anniversary.  I added a splash of colour by using red in the ribbon outlining my photo - after all love represents love and passion

It was fun making this for my husband and as you can see people it is easy peazy!!  Create one, post your link and I will check it out!!  Happy crafting and thanks for stopping by...

Paper Bag Tags

One of my favourite colour combinations to project with is a Kraft colour combined with white - I just love it!! To me it is dreamy, soothing, kind of shabby and almost vintage :-).

Inspired by an extremely talented lady on youtube - Juliana - I created two paper bag tags - one I gifted to a lovely couple who invited us for an awesome dinner and the second set has yet to find a owner!

The two pictures below depict the front and back of the mini paper bag I used. The front and back of the paper bag I randomly painted with white acrylic paint. I folded the top of the paper bag over about 1 inch and punched holes through it.

On the front of the bag (above) I glued down a hand torn piece of white mulberry paper and adhered a square of Kraft coloured corrugated cardboard on top of that.  I roughly tore to size a black and white image printed off the internet and adhered that to the corrugated board.  I decorated with flowers, butterfly, lace, trim, string and burlap.

The back of the mini paper bag (above) I  ran some string through my punched holes and tied it with a bauble. In the centre of my artificial flower I placed a porcelain rose.  Some trim, a random strip of blue paper and my bag was complete!!

I used a standard ranger tag and glued a piece of recycled brown paper - punched a hole, threaded and knotted some hemp.  Glued down a torn strip of mulberry paper near the bottom of the tag and centred a paper doily.  Cut out a shape printed from my computer, distressed inked it with vintage photo and adhered to the doily.  Stamped a sentiment in blue ink, tied a blue bow and added some white and blue flowers.

On the back of the tag I glued down a torn strip of blue paper - the same paper used on the paper bag.  Next I cut a strip of Kraft wrapping paper and punched two sides with a Martha Stewart decorative punch.  I crumbled it in my hand, straightened it out and glued down onto the strip of blue paper.  Glued down a Petaloo white flower and my project was complete!!

These paper bag tags make awesome gifts and any colour combination can be used. This set I gifted and I will be uploading the second set I made soon soon.

DAD (and me) LAYOUT

BoBunny weekend market papers was a change from the shabby chic high I had been on up until a few months before.  Initially I was not sure what kind of project I would attempt so I spread the papers out on a table and stared at it; and as I stared at it I knew I would do a masculine theme.  It was a challenge for me to do the layout as I love flowers, pearls and lace.  Also I wanted to represent my daughter in the layout still keeping with the masculine theme.  I think I incorporated both the feminine and the masculine and am very pleased with the result.

The papers are awesome and would perfectly suit a vintage mini album or a junque journal.  Of course with such awesome papers any project would emerge stunning.

I used a 12 x 12 sheet from the collection and two 6x6 sheets; distressed the edges and arranged.  Printed the poem from my computer, cut it out and matted onto cardstock before arranging on the layout.  The beautiful die cut doily is from Cheery Lynn - isn't it gorgeous!!.

All the flowers, fleur de lis, ribbon, lace are from my stash; butterflies are from Jolee's Boutique and all the stickers and noteworthy are from the collection.  The swirl is from the BoBunny Timepiece collection.

I love how this project turned out and so did my husband and daughter :-)

BoBunny Weekend Market Book

This awesome paper collection was part of my first DT package from Paperlane and I loved working with it.  I was inspired by a fellow youtuber 'WhatYouMakeIt' and my project resulted in an envelope pocket mini album with a mixed media cover.   I will fill this album with photographs of my father - after all the paper has a distinctive masculine feel to it.

I used an old piece of jewellery and loved the look of it on the cover.  The Tim Holtz swivel clasp is a perfect closure for the project. I burnt the edges of the lace piece and all the embellishments contributed wonderfully to the overall look of the cover.

The cover opens to reveal the first two pages.  On the left hand side I punched a scallop, added it to matching cardstock and inserted under the photo frame to be used as a personal journal note.  The bingo card is from an actual bingo game that I bought specifically to be used on my projects.  Bling in the artificial flowers is part of the weekend market collection.  With the exception of a few, all embellishments used are part of the collection.

The page opens to the left to reveal the above 3 page layout.  Below are close ups of the pages

I wound one length  of creme vintage lace throughout the book and it ties in a knot to secure the rest of the pages within this mini album.

The above page unties from the lace knot to reveal another two pages.  Below are close ups of those two pages.

The photo below indicates how the one flap lifts up to the left to reveal a 3 page layout.

Following are close ups of the pages

The  page layout closes and the page turns to reveal this two page layout below.  The page with the compass image in turn opens to reveal another 3 page layout.

This collection has some stunning embellishments.  The pale blue flowers are from my stash. The butterflies are from Jolee's Boutique.

Below is an image of the tags which fit into the envelope pockets.

I enjoyed making this album and I trust you enjoyed viewing my photographs too.
